Opening of mobile banking account

Precondition: the customer has already installed online banking with his bank, has activated mobile banking and uses a mobile phone capable of picture SMS or WAP. He calls his bank and orders a couple of PicTANs over the phone - a maximum of three at a time, which are sent as separate picture messages to his mobile or PDA. |

Reception of Matrix PicTAN

The customer receives a maximum of three PicTANs at a time on his mobile. As soon as a PicTAN is spent, the customer will automatically receive a new one. Matrix PicTANs may be saved just like ordinary messages - until the user pays with them. |

Merchant device (cash desk)
|
Precondition: the merchant must be authorised by the Trust Center and have the Merchant Device (scanner) installed. At the cash desk, the scanner reads out the PicTANs from the mobile / PDA and converts them into an alphanumerical fingerprint. This fingerprint is checked for plausibility, and the amount payable is taken over and presented on a display, prompting the customer to confirm. End of transaction - print receipt, and you're done! |

This is where the customer accounts are held. The fingerprint allocation is thus only available to the banks. Consequently, it is the bank that ensures the authentification of customers, the credit assessment, and transfer to the merchant. |

The system's main interface. The following operations are centralised here: customer authentification via call center, Internet, or WAP; maintenance / modification of PicTAN customer data, and hand over / take over of data to and from banks. |

This is where the fingerprints from the fingerprint server are managed. Moreover, fingerprint verification and fingerprint transaction are carried out here. The Trust Center also deals with communication to cashing systems, dealer authentification as well as receipt / forwarding of replies from the bank back to the merchant. |

PicTANs will be generated based on a random identification number per transaction. These identification numbers will be transfered as a fingerprint. |
|
Once all the information is authenticated, the Matrix PicTAN server converts the fingerprints into PicTANs based on the Data-Matrix-Code. The handover of PicTANs occurs on request by the customer (pull). At the same time, fingerprints (meanwhile being PicTANs) may be deleted here in a matter of seconds. |
